QA Compliance and Construction Quality Assurance
Construction quality assurance is the system of plans, processes, and records that prove a build was constructed to specification. What's inside a QA compliance engagement
A typical engagement includes some or all of:
QA program design — the overall quality framework for the project: scope, responsibilities, document control, hold-point inspections, conformance evidence requirements, and non-conformance management.
Inspection Test Plan suite — ITPs per trade or per work package, with hold-points, witness-points, inspection methods, conformance criteria, and Australian Standard references.
Document control system — how drawings, specifications, RFIs, variations, and conformance evidence are managed across the life of the project.
Conformance evidence templates — standard forms for inspection records, NCRs, hold-point sign-offs, mill certificates, test results, and as-built documentation.
Trade briefings — walking each sub-contractor through the QA expectations before their work starts, with written acknowledgement obtained.
QA audit trail — ongoing audits of the QA system itself, not just the trades' work but the QA records, document control, and NCR closure.
The output is a complete program the builder's own team can run, with QBFS available for ongoing oversight if the engagement extends.


Why a defensible QA program matters
Clients — sophisticated clients such as large developers, government, and institutional buyers audit builder QA before and during the build. A defensible program wins work and keeps it.
Insurers — home-warranty insurers and PI insurers respond strongly to evidence that a builder runs a defensible quality regime. Premiums, claim positions, and policy availability all depend on it.
Tribunals and courts — when a defect matter escalates to a tribunal or court, the QA program is the builder's main defence. A documented program shows what was checked, when, by whom, against what standard. The absence of one is hard to recover from.
The arithmetic favours design over retrofit. A QA program built at project setup costs a fraction of trying to reconstruct an audit trail after a defect notification.

- What's the difference between quality assurance and quality control?
Quality assurance is the system: plans, processes, hold-points, evidence templates, and the audit trail. Quality control is the day-to-day inspection rhythm that runs against the QA system on site. QA says what gets checked and how; QC is the act of checking it.
- Do we have to use QBFS's templates or can the program fit our existing QA system?
Both work. QBFS can design a program from scratch using its own templates, or work inside an existing QA system, often what builders already have through ISO 9001 or contract-required programs, adding the construction-specific layers where they’re thin.
- What standard does the QA program work to?
The reference points are the contract, the relevant Australian Standards, the National Construction Code, and any client-specific QA requirements. Where the project is on a public-sector or institutional contract with prescribed QA standards, the program is built to those.
- Do you train our trades on the QA expectations?
Yes. Trade briefings are part of the rollout. Each sub-contractor is walked through the relevant ITP, the conformance evidence required, the sign-off process, and the NCR workflow before their work starts. Briefings are documented.
- How does the QA work intersect with sub-contractor audits?
The QA program defines what gets audited and against what. The sub-contractor audit is the inspection that tests the work against the program. Most engagements run both inside a single QA framework.
- Can the QA program reduce our home warranty or PI insurance premiums?
In many cases, yes. A documented, defensible QA program is one of the inputs insurers use to assess builder risk. Improvements in premium or coverage usually take a renewal cycle to flow through, but the position is materially strengthened by the program.
