About Us

Our Team

QBFS is led by Paul Marko, who has been working in and around construction for decades. The firm draws on a network of specialist sub-consultants — structural engineers, hydraulic engineers, materials laboratories, accredited testers — engaged per matter where the scope requires their input.

The structure is deliberate. Most engagements involve direct work between the client and Paul. Specialist sub-consultants are coordinated by QBFS and their findings are integrated into the QBFS report. That keeps the consultancy independent and the reporting unified.

Paul Marko · Principal

Paul founded QBFS to deliver the kind of construction consultancy work he wanted to engage himself when he was running builds. The working theory was straightforward: forensic-grade reports written in language a builder, owner, or lawyer can act on, by someone who's actually built the kind of work they're investigating.

His background covers:

  • Decades inside the construction industry across residential, multi-residential, and commercial builds
  • Hands-on experience with quality assurance programs across multiple projects and contract types
  • Forensic investigation work on post-completion defects matters
  • Expert-witness work in tribunals and superior courts
  • ITP development and ongoing QA support for builders across Australia

Paul leads every engagement and conducts the site inspections personally on most matters.

Specialist sub-consultants

For investigations that need deeper technical input than a single consultant can carry, QBFS engages specialist sub-consultants:

  • Structural engineers for matters involving structural movement, design verification, or structural rectification scope.
  • Hydraulic engineers for water-related issues, drainage analysis, or service installation matters.
  • Geotechnical consultants where ground conditions are part of the defect cause.
  • Accredited testing laboratories for material testing, water tightness verification, fire and acoustic performance testing, concrete strength verification.
  • Specialist trades for forensic investigations requiring trade-level technical input that QBFS doesn't carry in-house.

Sub-consultants are engaged on a project-by-project basis. Their findings are integrated into the QBFS report rather than delivered as separate documents.

Who you work with at QBFS

For most engagements, you work directly with Paul. The first call, the site inspection, the report drafting, and the follow-up are all run by him. For matters with sub-consultants, Paul coordinates the inputs and stays the single point of contact.

This is intentional. QBFS isn't structured to scale up by adding generic consultants below a principal. The value proposition is direct senior expertise on every engagement.

Best way to start is a phone call. Tell Paul the project, the issue, where you sit in the build cycle. The next step gets sorted on the call: site visit, desktop review, or a referral if QBFS isn't the right fit.
